Edward Benson "Short Fuse" Herman (born October 2, 1980) is an American mixed martial arts fighter. He is from Vancouver, Washington. He first came to fame as a contestant on the third season of The Ultimate Fighter reality television show, training under Ken Shamrock. He fights in the 185 lb (84 kg) weight class. According to the show, his MMA record is 14 wins, 3 losses, while Sherdog.com lists his record as 10 wins, 3 losses. In The Ultimate Fighter, he won a preliminary victory against Danny Abaddi by armbar. In the semifinals, he defeated Rory Singer by rear naked choke. He then lost to Kendall Grove in the finals in a close, but unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28). Despite his loss, Ed was subsequently awarded a contract by UFC president Dana White based on his performance.

Ed lost his second official fight in the UFC at Ortiz vs. Shamrock 3: The Final Chapter. He was submitted by Jason MacDonald in the first round via a triangle choke. After two losses he has come off a losing streak and defeated Chris Price at the Ultimate Fight Night 8 by armbar.

At UFC 72 Herman submitted Scott Smith with a rear naked choke at 2:25 in the second round after Herman landed an elbow strike in the first round which opened a large cut on Smith's face.

Ed Herman fought Joe Doerksen at UFC 78 in November, 2007, winning by knockout 39 seconds into the third round after narrowly escaping submission by triangle choke in the final seconds of the second round. [1]

Herman's next bout was at UFC 83: Serra vs St-Pierre 2 in Montreal, Quebec, Canada on April 19th of 2008. It was a preliminary fight against Demian Maia. Herman was defeated by Triangle Choke at 2:27 of the second round. Maia had gained the mount position with a Triangle Choke still in place, as he unloaded several punches to the face of Herman. The referee then stopped the fight due to Herman being unconscious. It was hailed as the Submission of the Night.
