Original member of the Brooklyn-based indie-rock group, Grizzly Bear (band). The group began as the solo effort of Droste with the release of 2004's Horn of Plenty, originally released on Kanine Records. All songs were written and performed by Droste. By 2005, the group expanded into a four-piece, with Droste still as a contributing songwriter.

Ed Droste : I think anyone can fit in. I don't think it's an exclusive scene. There are tons of different types of gay musicians that are doing music. Deerhunter is a total shoe-gazer/My Bloody Valentine type of thing. Patrick Wolf is very theatrical. And we're just sort of folky. So, sure — why not? I fit in. I'm not stressed about it. Edward attended elementary at Shady Hill School in Cambridge, Massachusetts and high school at Concord Academy in Concord Massachusetts. He attended Hampshire College for one year in 1999 before transferring to and graduating from New York University's Gallatin School of Individualized Study in 2003.

April 2007 - Edward appeared as a guest vocalist on Jimmy Tamborello's fourth album under the name Dntel, titled "Dumb Luck," released on Sub Pop Records. The song was called "To a Fault."
September 2007 - Edward sang with Beirut as he recorded a video for his song "" for La Blogothèque's video series. Watch here
March 2008 - Edward joined Final Fantasy's Owen Pallett to cover Bjork's "Possibly Maybe" for Stereogum.com's tribute to Bjork's album, Post. Enjoyed: A Tribute to Post
