[edit] Description
An illustration of the Tower of Ecthelion, by John Howe
[edit] Fair Use Rationale
Though this image is subject to copyright, its use is covered by the U.S. fair use laws because:
- It is used as the primary means of visual identification in the article Tower of Ecthelion
- It was made by a well-known illustrator of Tolkien's works. It cannot be easily relaced by a free alternative.
- It does not limit the copyright owner's rights to sell the originals or prints in any way
- It does not limit the value of the author's work, as it is a scaled-down version unsuited to piracy
[edit] Licensing
This image is of a drawing, painting, print, or other two-dimensional work of art, and the copyright for it is most likely owned by either the artist who produced the image, the person who commissioned the work, or the heirs thereof. It is believed that the use of low-resolution images of works of art
qualifies as fair use under United States copyright law. Any other uses of this image, on Wikipedia or elsewhere, might be copyright infringement. See Wikipedia:Non-free content for more information. |
