[edit] Summary

Plot of inflation-adjusted home price appreciation in Japan (1980–2005) and the United States, Britain, and Australia (1995–2005) based on data given in the Economist magazine article "In come the waves: The worldwide rise in house prices is the biggest bubble in history. Prepare for the economic pain when it pops", June 16, 2005.

Also note the corrected date in the caption—the original Economist graph had incorrectly stated at the bottom that the base date for Japan was 1985, not 1980, as they state within the graph.

I, the creator of this plot, based on data published in the Economist magazine article "In come the waves: The worldwide rise in house prices is the biggest bubble in history. Prepare for the economic pain when it pops", June 16, 2005, release it to the public domain. Frothy 20:27, 29 June 2007 (UTC)

NOTE: The average for the US, Britain, and Australia line ends after 10 years, and hence the graph accurately represents a 1:1 correlation despite the two different ranges.

  • Japan Range: 2005 - 1980 = 25 years
  • US/Britain/Australia Average Range: 2005 - 1995 = 10 years
