Audrey Elizabeth Smith was born on 28 May 1980 to Dr. Stephen and Jan Smith in Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu,Hawaii. Dr. Steven Smith MD was in his medical residency as a general surgeon in the United States Army when Smith was born. Smith's mother is currently a special needs teacher in the Jordan School District. Smith was raised as self-proclaimed "army brat", she has lived all over the world including Hawaii, Minnesota, Washington, Germany before her family moved to Utah.

In 1997 Smith was elected and won Girls State which forwarded her to Girls Nation in which she met with President then Bill Clinton. She also met other notable people including Al Gore and Lynn Sherr. This experience influenced Smith to go to Wellesley College.

From 1998 to 2002 Smith went to Wellesley College in Wellesley, Massachusetts (13 miles west of Boston) and received a bachelors degree in American Studies.

As the result of a cold-call, Smith first started working for Governor Mike Leavitt as the Proclamations/Declarations Director. On August 11, 2003, Governor Leavitt was nominated by President George W. Bush to be the Administrator of the United States Environmental Protection Agency at a press conference in Aurora, Colorado. She assumed the office of Governor of the State of Utah after former governor Mike Leavitt resigned his office to serve as Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. Walker served as governor until the end of Leavitt's term on January 3, 2005.

Olene Smith Walker (b. November 15, 1930, Ogden, Utah), Utah's 15th governor, was sworn into office November 5, 2003. She was Utah's first, and, to date only, female governor. Smith had offers for other jobs but declined due to her desire to work for Utah first female Governor.

After Jon Huntsman, Jr. won the election for state Governor, Smith left to go work for Salt Lake County's Mayor, Peter Corroon as a Public information officer. The State of the County Addresses are also written by Smith.

She was the women's developmental group leader with Operation Crossroads in Ghana in West Africa. Ghana I: Crossroaders worked with the Ghana Rural Action Support Program on programs for women to promote the involvement of women in income generating development projects. She also served with Habitat for Humanity rebuilding city after Hurricane Katrina.

thumb|200px|Audrey Elizabeth Smith on the Oprah Winfrey Show On December 4, 2007, on The Oprah Winfrey Show Audrey was featured as a guest as part of the More with Elizabeth Gilbert's Eat, Pray, Love: One Woman's Search for Everything Across Italy, India and Indonesia (Viking, 2006). (Season 22, Episode 70). Oprah was impressed with Smith's volunteer work, so much so they had her as a guest on the show. In talking about living your dreams with Oprah and Elizabeth Gilbert, Oprah was thence so impressed with Smith that she asked "When is your book coming out?" In which the audience applauded in agreement.
