Echoes in the Darkness

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Echoes in the Darkness is the title of a 1987 book by crime writer Joseph Wambaugh. The book details the murder of Susan Reinert and her two children in Pennsylvania in 1979. The case captured national media attention. Both Jay C. Smith and William Bradfield were convicted in the case, although Smith's conviction was later overtuned.

The book was also adapted into a made-for-television mini-series in 1987. The television production starred Peter Coyote, Stockard Channing, and Robert Loggia, and was directed by Glenn Jordan.

Chief Investigator, Trooper John J. Holtz, was later found to have accepted $50,000 from author Joseph Wambaugh for information on the Reinert investigation. The money was provided on the condition that suspect Jay Smith be arrested.
