Echelon Barracks was a former military barracks situated in Colombo fort, Colombo. It dates back to the British Colonial rule in Sri Lanka (know as Ceylon then). Following independence it was occupied by the newly formed Ceylon Army. It was made up of a two-storey barrack blocks, with wide verandahs, formed a square around a compound large enough for several football and hockey pitches. This compound gained the name Echelon Square adjoining the then old Parliament (present Presidential Secretariat) presently where the Hotel Galadari stands. The Barrcks were demolished to make way for commercial buildings in fort during the 1970's. At present the World Trade Centre stands in the Echelon Square.
