Talk:Ebola Reston
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
"it was discovered that this specific strand of the Ebola virus, although resemblant of Ebola Zaire, proved fatal only to primates."
Humans are primates - more preciselly apes. I'll correct this but I wish someone could further polish this by finding out if the strain affected any other primates besides Macaca fascicularis.
Humans are humans. Apes are Apes. Humans are primates, but not apes. Ebola Reston might be spreadable through the air. Due to treaty, no further testing was performed on Ebola Zaire after the outbreak. Though it has been classified as an airborn strain of ebola, the only airborne strain of ebola, it is unknown if it actually is or not. It can infect human tissue.
"...no further testing was performed on Ebola Zaire after the outbreak..." For starters the "airborne" strain of EBOV is Reston, not Zaire. While it can infect humans, we are asymptomatic.
No testing has been or will ever be done on the Ebola viruses lest it appear biological warfare. however it infected 3 people who simply breathed the air from rooms containing the crab eating monkeys. thus its thought to be airborne, since its other method of infection, direct contact with infected blood, didnt occur.--Licourtrix (talk) 08:42, 14 June 2008 (UTC)
"Possible mutation"
This entire section is conjecture, sourceless and should be removed. Further, the author's assertion that "A crossing of the Ebola Reston strain... and one of the other Ebola strains... could potentially result in a new... deadly, over-the-air infectious Ebola strain mutation" displays a fundamental misunderstanding of the way viruses reproduce. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Acabtp (talk • contribs) 12:21, 18 October 2007 (UTC)
- Agreed. I removed this entire section, which seems to have been written by someone who thinks viruses reproduce sexually. Zefryl (talk) 00:11, 30 March 2008 (UTC)

- Viruses mutate without sexual reproduction, so that this is a possible mutation or adaptation of a existing ebola virus should probably be left there.
