[edit] Copyright status
User:Ah1954 who uploaded the file claims the image is:
- fair use of artwork by Edmund Blampied - to illustrate article on the artist
- fair use of stamp image - to illustrate discussion of the stamps in article Occupation of the Channel Islands
- in the public domain, anyway - on the grounds that the stamps were issued under the authority of the German military occupation authorities. Assuming the authority of the occupation régime survived the end of the occupation in 1945, such copyright that may have endured would have lapsed in 1995 (50-year term under Jersey legislation)
These claims may or may not be justified (and personally I think the Blampied estate may very well have a claim to copyright in the artist's work against the claims of the occupation authorities), but these claims of fair use and PD having been made, some argument against should be made before deletion is proceeded with. I have therefore removed OrphanBot's delete notice and placed a PD template to state clearly Ah1954's claim. Man vyi 07:32, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- There having been no contest to claim of PD or argument re justification thereof (not to say I'm convinced, personally, but no one has contraverted the claim), I have re-instated the image in the articles where a prior claim of fair use was made. As the image has been re-instated, I have removed the unused deletion template in accordance with instructions. Man vyi 16:10, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
