battlecat does NOT come from long beach

Long Beach residence would be quite surprised by this description. What the writer descibes is a minor side of the West side, east side is quite upscale, west side also encompasses fabulous schools such as Polytechnic High School and many up and coming neighborhoods. Long Beach is too diverse to be divided into east and west...too many pockets...Long Beach is also relatively safe. The west side has some fabulous Cambodian restaurants and shops, well worth visiting and very safe to go to.... The preceding unsigned comment was added by 24.176.221.223 (talk • contribs) .

The problem is that there are really two different "Eastsides" in Long Beach. There is the Eastside claimed by the Eastside Longos and other gangs, and then there is the upscale East side towards El Dorado Park. The problem is that both versions are fairly ill-defined and finding reputable references is difficult. BlankVerse 06:32, 16 December 2005 (UTC)

--- yeah I definitely agree! Eastside doesn't stop at Ximeno, whether or not the gangs claim that area or not! Long Beach goes as far east as Norwalk Blvd. And absolutely *nobody* who lives here considers Daisy (or anywhere near it) part of East LB. Again, remember that we are talking about two very different Eastsides. One is the gang/rap version and the other is the whitebread version.
The current version of this article comes close to describing the boundaries of the gang/rap "Eastside" (think Snoop Dogg's Eastsidaz and VIP Records), although I'd change the description of the boundaries somewhat. The north boundary is certainly NOT Wardlow, which takes you into Bixby Knolls/California Heights territory. My guess is that the north boundary is, for the most part, somewhere between Hill and Willow, and then follows the Signal Hill boundary to PCH. Daisy is close for the west boundary, but it's really the Los Angeles River. For the east boundary, I'm not that sure, even though I used to live near Anaheim and Redondo. I saw ESL (Eastside Longos) graffitti fairly regularly in that area all the way east to Ximeno, but I think that may have been mostly wannabes. I never saw any gang activity there (although I can imagine there might be some in the Redondo/PCH/Ximeno/Anaheim rectangle). I am pretty sure that the gangs are as far east as Temple, though.
For the other "Eastside", take a look at this link to see if I did a fairly accurate job of describing that Eastside: [1]. What I am thinking of doing is copying the current text in this article to Eastside (gang/rap), Long Beach, California. Then creating a disambiguation page at Eastside, Long Beach that would have links to both articles, and then reverting this article to my version.
I find it interesting that the anon IP that wrote the current description is an IP in Switzerland (80.218.154.94 = 80-218-154-94.dclient.hispeed.ch) (.ch = Latin: Confoederatio Helvetica). BlankVerse 07:06, 17 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Merge?

  • Oppose. As I've stated above, I think that I have a good plan for what to do with this article, and with the information that is currently in the article that needs to be moved elsewhere. It certainly shouldn't be moved to the Long Beach, California article, which is already large and growning larger. BlankVerse 01:27, 19 December 2005 (UTC)
  • Support. Maybe a comment a sentence or two long would do on the Long Beach Site, but this article really doesn't seem to comply with any wikipedia standards. Gerdbrendel 05:16, 5 January 2006 (UTC)
