Talk:Eastern Black Crested Gibbon

[edit] Nomascus hainanus
I am aware of Michael Geissman's suggestion that Nomascus nasutus be considered conspecific with N. hainanus. Because Groves vide Wilson & Reeder (2005) questioned the inclusion of N. nasutus in N. concolor, I agree with Geissman that the Eastern Black-Crested Gibbons comprise two separate subspecies (N. hainanus hainanus [Hainan Gibbon], and N. h. nasutus [Cao Vit Gibbon]). The two subspecies are told apart by only their vocal sounds.
Was the decline in Cao Vit Gibbon numbers caused by the Vietnam War other than habitat destruction? What were the historical ranges of N. hainanus hainanus and N. h. nasutus?
