Easy Tiger is Ryan Adams' 9th studio album since leaving the alt-country band Whiskeytown. The album, which was recorded at Electric Lady Studios in Greenwich Village, was released on June 25, 2007 (June 26 in the U.S.),[1] and was Adams' first release since his 2005 album 29, the third of three albums released in that year. The album features The Cardinals as the backing band and backing vocals from Sheryl Crow on "Two."[2] The song "Halloweenhead" was #45 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.[3]
Many of these songs were performed on Adams' recent tour of the United States and Europe. "Off Broadway" first appeared on the bootleg The Suicide Handbook, a compilation of unreleased demo recordings, and was performed at least as early as 2001. "These Girls" previously appeared as "Hey There, Mrs. Lovely" on Adams' unreleased 2000 album Destroyer; the lyrics have been partly rewritten over time, but the original melody is intact.
The album debuted at #7 on the Billboard 200 with Adams highest first-week sales (61,000).[4] As of December 2007, the album has sold over 200,000 copies in the U.S.[5] Furthermore, the album debuted in Ireland, Canada, Belgium, Estonia and Switzerland where Ryan Adams has never had an album chart before. In total, the United World Chart estimated Easy Tiger's two week sales at 134,000 (91,000-43,000).[6]
