The Eastern triangular butterflyfish, Chaetodon baronessa , is a member of the Chaetodontidae.

Found in the Indo-West Pacific region from the Cocos-Keeling Islands in the eastern Indian Ocean and Indonesia to Fiji and Tonga, north to southern Japan, south to New Caledonia and New South Wales, Australia. Replaced by the triangle butterflyfish, Chaetodon triangulum in the Indian Ocean. [1]

Grows to a maximum of 16cm long. The body has a pattern of alternating cream and grey-brown to purple chevron-shaped bars. There are three dark bars on the head, including one running across the eye. [1]

The Eastern triangular butterflyfish feeds exclusively on the polyps of the tubular Acropora corals. [1]

The Eastern triangular butterflyfish is found in lagoon and seaward coral reefs. Swim in pairs and are territorial. [1]
