Eastern Young Cattle Indicator - EYCI

The Eastern Young Cattle Indicator - or EYCI - is an indicator of general cattle markets in Australia.
The EYCI index is calculated based on a seven-day rolling average expressed in cents per kilogram carcase (or dressed) weight (ยข/kg cwt); and is sourced from sale data from 26 saleyards in New South Wales, Queensland and Victoria;

It is produced daily by MLA's National Livestock Reporting Service (NLRS); and includes
- vealer
- yearling
- heifers
- steers
Only cattle meeting the following criteria are included
- grade score C2 or C3,
- 200kg+ liveweight
Includes cattle purchased for
- slaughter,
- restocking or
- lotfeeding;
It is also used as the base for the MLA/SFE Meat & Livestock Australia/Sydney futures exchange Cattle Futures contract.
