Eastern Province, Sri Lanka

Coordinates: 8°34′16″N, 81°14′14″E Eastern Province (Sinhala: Negenahira Palata) is a province of Sri Lanka. Its capital is Trincomalee. The population is divided between Tamils, Sri Lankan Moors and Sinhalese. The Government of Sri Lanka had temporarily merged it with the Northern Province in 1987 and de-linked it from the North in 2007.
