Eastern Guilford High School is a school located in Gibsonville, North Carolina. The school originally opened in 1974, and is the same school from which Torry Holt of the St. Louis Rams and Terrence Holt of the Arizona Cardinals graduated. Today, it currently serves Grades 9 through 12, with an enrollment of 1,072 students.

[edit] Fire

On November 1, 2006 at approximately 2:20 PM, a fire broke out in a chemistry lab office. The school was severely damaged and had been declared a total loss. All of the students evacuated the building and nobody was lost or injured. The building was demolished due to safety concerns. On December 7, 2006, it was reported that the cause of November 1 fire was ruled as arson, and a $10,000 reward was being offered for information leading to the arrest of the person or persons responsible for setting the fire. The Guilford County Sheriff's Department has spoken with "people of interest" who they believe may have been involved with the arson.

On November 8, seniors and juniors resumed their classes at Guilford Technical Community College's Greensboro campus. Shortly thereafter, on November 14, sophomores and freshmen resumed classes at the vacant North Carolina Central School for the Deaf campus. The students finished out the school year at their respective campuses.

[edit] New School Construction

As of now, the students of Eastern Guilford are attending classes at a "pod village". The new Eastern Guilford High School building is currently being constructed. The school will be of the same architectural design as the recently constructed Northern Guilford High School, and will have a capacity of 1,600 people. The estimated date of completion is January 2009.
