East Kirkby

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

East Kirkby is a village situated on the A155 south of Horncastle in Lincolnshire.

Scattered along the main road, it features a restored windmill tower, and St Nicholas church (Church of England or Anglican). The village pub is the Red Lion on Fen Lane. A mile along the road to Spilsby is Hagnaby.

Near the village is the site of the former RAF East Kirkby, a World War II Royal Air Force base (code name Silksheen). One corner is now the home of Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre. The airfield is also used for sprinting on motorbikes.
