East Hollywood High School (EHHS) is an accreditated Utah public charter school that specializes in film production training for students in grades 9-12. East Hollywood High School’s mission is to provide authentic film production training to students with a passion for film in preparation for a career in film production and to provide a solid liberal arts education to students in preparation for college entry.
East Hollywood High offers a unique and powerful learning experience for students who are passionate about learning the art and science of film production while they also prepare for college. Such an experience is created by the confluence of apprenticeship learning, smaller class and student body sizes, and opportunities for students to extend their education into the film production industry.

[edit] Apprenticeship Learning
East Hollywood High is unique in that it hires film professionals to teach its film courses. This means that students are receiving instruction in film production from professional actors, editors, screenwriters, directors, et cetera - who can teach students “how it's really done” in the film industry. Aside from their industry experience, and as with their colleagues who teach in the liberal arts, our film teachers are also licensed or authorized to teach by the state of Utah. Additionally, East Hollywood teaches students with professional grade equipment. Whether it is in our two film studios, our 2D/3D animation lab, or editing lab – students are using the cameras, lights, computers, and software used by the pros.
[edit] Class/Student Body Size
East Hollywood High maintains its student body size below 450 and its average class size below 25. For many students who may feel lost in a larger school setting this allows students more individual access to teachers and staff and to feel that they are an important part of the learning community at EHHS.
[edit] Extension of the Educational Program
Because East Hollywood employs film professionals and has strong connections with the film production industry in Utah, it can afford students unique opportunities to extend and apply their learning to “real world” settings while still in high school. Not only does East Hollywood High invite film professionals to come speak to and work with students during regular class time, it also invites auditions, photo shoots, film shoots, and television shows to come use the EHHS campus – which, in turn, provides opportunities for students to observe, work with, - and at times – work for, these productions. Additionally, several East Hollywood High students have been placed as interns on sets, in studios, and on film projects while still in high school.
