East Dean Rural District

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

East Dean was a rural district in Gloucestershire, England from 1894 to 1974.

It was created under the Local Government Act 1894 as the rural district of East Dean and United Parishes, based on the Westbury-on-Severn rural sanitary district. In 1935 it was reconstitued as the East Dean rural district, losing the parish of Minterworth to the Gloucester Rural District.

The district survived until 1974, when it was merged under the Local Government Act 1972 with other districts to form the Forest of Dean district.
