[edit] Overview
Although East Cobb had a bad reputation, ever since Mr. Chiprany arrived as principal the school's standards have risen. At the start of the 2007-08 school year East Cobb has risen its low test scores and is now an excellent school.
During the 2007-2008 football season, East Cobb's 8th grade team went nearly undefeated. (They lost their last game.) The 7th grad team went undefeated the whole season and won the state championship.
This school is a very good place to get used to the "real world". There are many different cultures and languages spoken here. Children get to explore outside of their regular culture.
East Cobb Middle School offers a wide range of extra-curricular activities: everything from Band, Orchestra, and Chorus to Robotics, Formula 1 in Schools and Student Council. In March of 2008, East Cobb competed in the Inter-national Formula 1 in Schools competition in Malaysia. Their car was one of the top 10 fastest cars in the world and they received the Collaboration award (for having the best collaborative team, they were part of Team Hybrid which also included students from Scotland.). They have won this award at inter-nationals before, so this was a big event. No other team in the history of Formula 1 in Schools has won two awards at inter-nationals (in different years, even). Also, in March, The Science Olympiad team competed in the state competition and received 12 place overall. The Track Ready Cougars, another East Cobb MS Formula 1 team placed 1st in the state as well. There is always something great and exciting going on at East Cobb MS!
This school is a fabulous place to learn. The teachers are very committed to making sure each and every student understands what is being taught and can apply their gained knowledge on tests and quizzes. Spanish is an offered class, as is French. Another fantastic class is S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) East Cobb is the only middle school in Cobb County to offer this class or anything like it. Here students do just about everything - robotics, animation, CAD, and other technology-related activities.
