East Carlton

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

East Carlton is a village located in the county of Northamptonshire, on the beautiful Welland Valley. It is only a few miles west of the town of Corby and is administered as part of the Corby Borough. It is well known for it's country park, East Carlton Country Park, which attracts over 400,000 visitors each year (according to Corby Borough Council) from the local area of Corby, Kettering, Harborough and indeed further afield. The Country Park has a heritage centre which contains models and historical information about the Corby Steelworks.

There is a large mansion house, formerly known as Carlton Hall, now called East Carlton Hall which had been used by Corby Borough Council. It was largely rebuilt in 1870 with red brick in the style of a french Chateau. It is said that the stone wall which surrounds the south and east of the parkland was the re-used stone of the old Hall

Although East Carlton is officially in the county of Northamptonshire, it is classed as being in Leicestershire for postal reasons only.
