This category is for individuals and groups of martyrs who died for their Eastern Orthodox faith from the 16th century onwards.
Earlier martyrs are categorised as Category:Christian martyrs of the Roman era (1st to 4th century) or Category:Christian martyrs of the Medieval era (5th to 15th centuries).
The Orthodox Church also recognises as Passion bearers those who died righteously at the hands of others, not necessarily as a result of Christian witness.
