[edit] Welcome

Hello, welcome to Wikipedia. I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian. You can learn more on the how to edit page. The naming conventions and style guide pages are also useful. There is a sandbox which you can use to experiment in. If you have any questions, see the help pages or add a question to the village pump. If you ever think a page or image should be deleted, please list it at the votes for deletion page. There is also a votes for undeletion page if you want to retrieve something that you think should not have been deleted. Angela 03:09, 22 Aug 2003 (UTC)

[edit] Demise of UMNO

The "Demise of UMNO" section you added to United Malays National Organisation is taken from here. Do you have permission from the copyright holder for this? Jpatokal 05:51, 28 Jul 2004 (UTC)

  • It was not me that added that. Probably another user copied and pasted it earlier. I merely added a quotation mark. If you have checked the page history, you may well see that I was not the one that added the whole thing. The user that plagrarized was from 202.187.231.197. So, I am not the one that should be asked that question. __earth 23:07, Jul 28, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Anwar Ibrahim POV dispute

You posted on the talk, and I was wondering if you could help balance out Anwar Ibrahim. I've placed the NPOV-dispute notice there as a result of several glaring omissions from the article about the government's point of view, Anwar's critics' point of view, and just about anyone's view except those who support Anwar. I've tried to NPOV it, but my edits are hampered by a lack of in-depth knowledge on Anwar and the claims of his critics. For more, you can see Talk:Anwar Ibrahim. Johnleemk | Talk 10:09, 8 Sep 2004 (UTC)

Hi there. I've been keeping an occasional eye on Malaysia-related topics to find potential recruits for the Malay wikipedia. Maybe you'd like to head over, take a look, give a hand? Cheers, -- Kowey 20:49, 9 Oct 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Kyoto

Thanks for that fine distinction you made about greenhouse gases. The Kyoto Protocol article really should distinguish between ghg's that it aims to regulate, and those it plans to take charge of later or just ignore altogether.

Also, do you know of any plans to modify and/or intensify the regulation scheme? Will an international board be set up to assign national quotas? --user:Ed Poor (talk) 17:01, Nov 16, 2004 (UTC)

Not any that I know of. But the emission trading will be done via three method specified in the Protocol. That much I know. __earth 04:30, Dec 2, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Article Licensing

Hi, I've started a drive to get users to multi-license all of their contributions that they've made to either (1) all U.S. state, county, and city articles or (2) all articles, using the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike (CC-by-sa) v1.0 and v2.0 Licenses or into the public domain if they prefer. The CC-by-sa license is a true free documentation license that is similar to Wikipedia's license, the GFDL, but it allows other projects, such as WikiTravel, to use our articles. Since you are among the top 2000 Wikipedians by edits, I was wondering if you would be willing to multi-license all of your contributions or at minimum those on the geographic articles. Over 90% of people asked have agreed. For More Information:

To allow us to track those users who muli-license their contributions, many users copy and paste the "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" template into their user page, but there are other options at Template messages/User namespace. The following examples could also copied and pasted into your user page:

Option 1
I agree to multi-license all my contributions, with the exception of my user pages, as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

OR

Option 2
I agree to multi-license all my contributions to any U.S. state, county, or city article as described below:
DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual

Or if you wanted to place your work into the public domain, you could replace "DualLicenseWithCC-BySA-Dual" with "MultiLicensePD". If you only prefer using the GFDL, I would like to know that too. Please let me know what you think at my talk page. It's important to know either way so no one keeps asking. -- Ram-Man (comment| talk)

[edit] A Neo-Cultural Art

Although the poem was in the sandbox, it was a work of art, and therefore, it shouldn't have been deleted.

Aw, sorry. I'd put it back if nobody objects. __earth

[edit] Sandbox

Please don't libel people in the sandbox, even if only in jest. It is considered not nice. --fvw* 02:08, 2004 Dec 19 (UTC)

First, it's a sandbox. Second, look at the history. __earth 02:10, Dec 19, 2004 (UTC)
There are still rules in the sandbox though. Misattribution and libel are not allowed anywhere. I don't know who's creative mind the poem sprung from, I merely checked to see who most recently added it. And have a nice day yourself too. --fvw* 02:15, 2004 Dec 19 (UTC)

[edit] Unverified images

Thanks for uploading Image:Afcajax.jpg. I noticed that it currently doesn't have an image copyright tag. Could you add one to let us know its copyright status? (You can use gfdl if you release it under the GFDL, or fairuse if you claim fair use, etc.) If you don't know what any of this means, just let me know where you got the images and I'll tag them for you. Thanks so much, Ricky81682 (talk) 01:54, Dec 20, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Sandbox again

Hi there, I'm afraid the sandbox has to be raked from time to time. If you want to save the page or the coding examples for future reference, please use a subpage as a personal sandbox like User:Earth/Sandbox. Mgm|(talk) 09:00, Dec 23, 2004 (UTC)

[edit] Discrimination against non-Muslims in Malaysia

Er...why did you put in the misleading edit summary implying you were citing a source when you were really removing material from the article? Johnleemk | Talk 09:22, 11 Jan 2005 (UTC)

It's not misleading if you read it in context. I'd say "source cited" instead of "cite source" if I were citing source. There's difference between those two phrases. __earth 15:49, Jan 11, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Pattani

Thanks for drawing that to my attention. I agree the two articles should be merged. My inclination would be to use some of the material at Pattani separatism for my article, South Thailand insurgency, but this might seem rather arrogant given that a number of people have been working on the former article for some time. [edit] kafirophopes

well -- I agree it's a borderline case, and I would have voted 'redirect' in the vfd. I doubt that Wikipedia's reputation will be damaged by reporting unnotable terms (we have, after all, the Wikipedia:Pokémon Adoption Center :) dab () 09:10, 23 August 2005 (UTC)

Hey, Pokemon is King! How dare you say..., er nevermind. =p __earth 13:42, August 25, 2005 (UTC)

I presume that your concerns that we discussed relate to User:Colin chee and User:Alibadawi, and their possible relationship with User:garywbush. I think that I agree with you, paticularly with Colin Chee, who has been discredited on other webpages. I suggest that if they continue to act in this manner, I think the following cause of action should be taken:

  • A question on relevant user talk pages or the kafir talk page about sockpuppetry. If this does not produce any results then:
  • A request for mediation or arbitration and a 'suspected sockpuppet' tag on relevant pages

I will keep watching as well, but hopefully they will stop editing the page now that it has been reverted once more to exclude kafirophobia Robdurbar 16:06, 25 August 2005 (UTC)

This is libel to accuse me of being related to Colin Chee but it is natural Earth will resort to such libel as he is a Muslim. I urge you to cease and desist as I can take appropriate action (for instance reporting to Wikipedia) as slander is against Wikipedia policy. Also, I have never engaged in socketpuppetry and I suspect Earth hacked my account. I have since changed my password. To Earth, please go directly to my Talk page as I do not frequent this page. Garywbush 23:21, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
Whether you keep watching or not is immaterial. If you are a Muslim, which I suspect you of being, then you are trying to prevent this term to enter the encyclopedia as it is offensive to you and your co-religionists. This is unfair as Wikipedia should be neutral and Islamophobia is allowed in, so I take note that perhaps you want Wikipedia only to show Islamic POV and not non-Islam POV. Earth even supports the Islamist terrorists in Southern Thailand and so he is not a person credible to discuss Kafirphobia. After all, Wikipedia is not a democracy so Earth can be thrown out. Garywbush 23:21, 11 September 2005 (UTC)
Who says I'm supporting the terrorist? I'm only concerned with human rights. I don't support any religious fanatic, Islamist or your beliefs. __earth 04:58, September 12, 2005 (UTC)
Yes you are supporting terrorists. Go and read my talk page. Have fun. Garywbush 01:52, 15 September 2005 (UTC)
This is irrelevent to your case. Even if I were Satan himself, you still hasn't provide proof that you're not a sockpuppet. __earth 04:31, 15 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Your bot Pearle

Hey, your bot recategorizes a couple of things from environment to environmentalism. Personally, I think it's wrong. For instance, the 2005 Malaysian haze is more about the environment instead of a political belief. __earth 04:23, September 5, 2005 (UTC)

Indeed. The entirety of Category:Environment was approved for merger with the latter by WP:CFD, and Pearle was blindly implementing that decision. I have left a note at Wikipedia:Categories_for_deletion#To_be_emptied_or_moved explaining the situation and linking to background information. The participants of that page will need to figure out what to do now; I'm sure your input on that would be helpful. Thanks, Beland 04:33, 5 September 2005 (UTC)

[edit] University of Michigan - improvement drive

As a fellow Michigan alum, I was wondering if you would be interested in helping out with this article? I have recently placed it on peer review and so far it seems that I am the only one working on the article. Thanks. Pentawing 20:14, 17 September 2005 (UTC)

Definately! Does that include vandalizing OSU's page? __earth 02:01, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
Vandalizing the OSU article? Not if we want to have a Buckeye get at us! Anyways, what I am trying to do is get the UM article featured and someday make it to the front page, as a means of annoying those people from OSU and MSU :-). You can look at the article's talk page to see what is needed. Pentawing 21:10, 18 September 2005 (UTC)
There are some sections I believe need to be expanded, such as academics and student life. If you have any ideas, please tell me. Pentawing 22:41, 19 September 2005 (UTC)
There are two sections that I am concerned about: academics (the statistics need to be cited, more information on faculty need to be added) and student life (notably organizations, since what I noted is quite sparse. There must be other groups worth mentioning). Also, I need someone else to look over the wording of the article (one user complained about it on peer review). Other than that, I don't see anything else that could be improved upon. Pentawing 05:58, 25 September 2005 (UTC)
  • I am in the middle of confirming claims that UM is one of the best universities. Can you help out? What I need are citations that back up such claims. Also, SimonP noted that the tone of the article is a bit too positive. Can you think of some negatives, other than the high cost of tuition? Thanks. Pentawing 03:49, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
    • Thanks. I already used the first source. As for the second source, is "Michigan University" the same as UM? The naming scheme doesn't make sense since they used "University of (state)" as well. As for UM being too left-wing, where do you believe this can be placed? Thanks. Pentawing 04:27, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
      • Thanks for the information. I only had access to the PDF file (not the main listing, which requires me to log in). If you wish to add information, go ahead but be sure that whatever you add is verifiable. As you probably known, there is no university article that is FA, so we are going into unexplored territory here. Pentawing 04:54, 2 October 2005 (UTC)
  • I did some more editing of the article (including the addition of negatives whenever possible). Could you look at the article and comment on it? I think it is close to FA, but I am waiting on another reviewer to respond. Thanks. Pentawing 23:50, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
    • By the way, your image of the Big House is tagged as being copyrighted. I am wary of including such an image (I am looking for images with GFDL-compatible licenses). If you have taken the image, why is it marked as copyrighted? Pentawing 23:53, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
      • Okay, the image seems to be alright so I included it in the article. Pentawing 06:52, 8 October 2005 (UTC)
  • I think the article is close to FA. However, can you please look at it and see if there is anything more that is needed? Thanks. Pentawing 21:44, 18 October 2005 (UTC)
  • I was wondering if you can get a chance to look over the article and comment on it further? Thanks. Pentawing 20:52, 2 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Well, the article is now on the FAC board. Few if no comments so far. Do you mind looking over it and leaving a comment? Thanks. Pentawing 00:10, 14 November 2005 (UTC)
  • Raul654 is on schedule in updating the FA listings (which can be seen by looking at the FA listings editing history), and I'm happy to say that the University of Michigan article is now featured (the first featured university article)! Pentawing 07:57, 19 November 2005 (UTC)
