[edit] Parks

Parks was not Governor of a U.S. state. Alaska did not become a state until 1959, decades after his term as territorial governor. I find the list interesting but we need to rationalize the criteria if it is to be taken seriously. Huangdi 04:06, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

The wording is awkward and confusing, perhaps some other word could be used, similiar to what they have for Dean of the House. Yankee Rajput 02:10, 20 August 2006 (UTC)

Can anyone provide a source for any of this? I also agree that the article needs to be explained further. Is this a list of the ex-Governors who have been out of office the longest? Chronicler3 14:06, 4 September 2006 (UTC)
From what I can work out, it's essentially a list of the oldest ex-Governors, regardless of when they were in power 86.130.129.145

It's a list of the people who are the oldest living earliest governors-- e.g., Leader, the current holder, was Governor of Pennsylvania back in the 1950s. Most of them are people who were fairly young when elected governor (Stassen was in his early 30s when elected Gov of Minnesota and lived to an old age; Thurmond was governor of South Carolina in the 1940s and died a couple of years ago, etc.). I suspect that two of the next people on the list would be John Gary Evans, who was Governor of South Carolina 1894-1897 and lived until 1942, and/or John_E._Osbourne who was Governor of Wyoming from 1893-1895 and died in 1943. Some of the late 19th century state governor lists on Wikipedia are incomplete though. User:Lionelag

I agreed it was confusing, so I moved the old page to Earliest serving US governor and turned this page into a listing of the oldest living U.S. Governors. I may consider combining them back into one page as I did with Earliest living US senator.--Dr who1975 02:01, 20 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Possible new article title

What about "Senior Ex-Governor"?—Preceding unsigned comment added by Chronicler3 (talkcontribs)

I second this suggestion. --ScottAlanHill (talk) 01:55, 4 June 2008 (UTC)
Generally, I like the name the way it is, I'm pretty neutral... I suppose th reson you wouldn;t wantto call it most senior ex-governor is on the off chance that a guy manages to stay as governor of a state for 60 years and thus is the most seniorgovernorbut not an ex governor. Both side of this debate delve into utter minutia.--Dr who1975 (talk) 03:22, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Relevance?

I'm not sure that this is that relevant of a topic. If someone can think of a situation that this information would be useful, I'd love to hear it.—Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.30.14.50 (talkcontribs)

It's interesting. Heaven forbid that Wikipedia have anything interesting, in the era of the deletionists. --ScottAlanHill (talk) 01:53, 4 June 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Moved from Earliest living US governor

I felt Earliest serving US governor was more apropiate a name considering it is a lit of the earliest serving governor that is still alive for the given period of time and not a list of the oldest living governor (which I've started on the old page). I made the maistake of moving it manually and not through the proper wiki function. Since no good deed goes unpunished I'm getting way to many questions on my user page about this. I really don't care much about this page. I just didn't want the information to be lost.--Dr who1975 19:00, 27 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Huh? What does this mean?

What does "current earliest serving" mean? Does it mean "youngest serving"? And then what does the subhead "Current Living Earliest Serving" mean? Hult041956 22:18, 13 November 2007 (UTC)

No it means the former governor who is still alive who's begining of first term is the furthest back of any living governor. I've spent the last couple of months trying to get these "earliest governor" pages under control. For instance, this very page used to be called Earliest living United States governor which was a worse name. I moved it here and turned the Earliest living United States governor into a list of oldest governors. Are you the guy who suggested moving Earliest living United States governor to Oldest living United States governor?--Dr who1975 20:47, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
Nope. I've suggested no such move. In fact I only came across this article the other day, just surfing links. As you are actively working this and similar articles, I'll happily yield. It is a very clunky name, but I can't say I know a better one. Good luck. Hult041956 22:10, 15 November 2007 (UTC)
I took your comment Isn't "oldest" a better adjective than "earliest living"? to be a suggestion that it be moved. Even if you didn't mean it as such itwasstill a good idea so I moved it.
  • Came here to try and help do some cleanup as the article has been tagged since 2006. Unfortunately, I'm not sure of the purpose or context of the page. If someone wants to clarify for me than I'll gladly do my best to sort out the cleanup. Otherwise, I'm not sure the page needs to exist in its current format and may be an article for deletion (although I still don't have a handle on all the policies on here). • P.S. The artilce only got tagged this month. Where did you get April, 2006?--Dr who1975 (talk) 14:54, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
