Earth Fare is an Asheville, North Carolina-based natural foods grocer, with a chain of stores found throughout the Southeast. Earth Fare was founded by Roger Derrough in Asheville in 1975 as "Dinner for the Earth," changing names in 1993 to Earth Fare. Earth Fare has one of the most stringent definitions of "natural" in the food industry, having banned added transfats from their shelves as early as 1993 and carrying no products with high fructose corn syrup. Earth Fare is currently the third-largest natural foods retailer in the country, behind Whole Foods Market and Wild Oats Markets (Whole Foods completed a buyout of Wild Oats in August 2007).
