Earle Hyman

Earle Hyman (born October 11, 1926) is an American actor. A native of Rocky Mount, North Carolina, Hyman is best known for his recurring role on The Cosby Show as Cliff's father, Russell Huxtable. He was nominated for an Emmy Award in 1986. Hyman also provided the voice of Panthro, amongst other characters, in the 1980s animated series ThunderCats.
Early in his career, he taught himself Norwegian so he could play Ibsen in the original language on stage. Hyman still maintains an apartment in Oslo.
He's a third cousin of the late Phyllis Hyman.
