[edit] The qualities that shaped Rizal

1. Race: As a descendant of the Malay race and from the Ilocano and Pangasinan blood that he inherited from his mother.

2. Religion: Christian influences are one of the things that shaped Rizal. He was born, baptized, and raised as a Catholic.

3. As a wide reader: He has read many written works, books, and other publications written and published in various languages.

4. As a linguist: His knowledge of different languages aside from his own. He can speak and understand various languages.

5. As a traveler: He befriended many nations, its citizens and other fellow travelers on his every journey.

[edit] Rizal's ideas about "Brotherhood"

1. Education: He was raised and educated properly so that he cannot endure the sufferings of his fellow Filipinos had from the ignorance of the Spaniards.

2. Religion: His belief in only one God. The occurrence of different religions is not the reason for misunderstanding. However, it must be used for correspondence and freedom for all nations, and to have a deep respect on different beliefs that people are used to and raised from it.

3. Fellow people: It is important for one man to have a fellow and the knowledge on the equality of human rights despite of different beliefs and social status.

[edit] Guidelines on "Worldwide Brotherhood"

The following are based from Rizal's opinions from his writings and speeches that intends to establish harmony and bonding between nations:

The negligence of human rights is a fundamental cause that is wished to end by establishing unity. One of Rizal's wishes is to have an equality of rights, justice, dignity, and peace. The basis for unity is a mutual brotherhood that aims a deep respect in people's beliefs even though they are separated by race, level of education, and age. A negative effect of Colonialism is racial discrimination. The emergence of a worldwide brotherhood with the intention of eradicating any forms of discrimination because of one's race, social status, or religion. Peace is Rizal's wish to end the colonial rule of different countries. This is also one of Rizal's concerns in the mutual understanding not only between Spain but also in other countries. One of the reasons for this is due to Rizal's protest about the public display of Igorots in a Madrid carnival in 1887 that caused anger and misunderstanding to those who believed in the importance on one's race.

[edit] Drawbacks that hinders progress towards to a Worldwide Brotherhood

Change and harmony can be achieved through unity. The beliefs of one's rights, dignity, and importance, and of equality of rights between genders and of between nations.

From a certain speech of Rizal:

The Philippines will remain forever with Spain if her laws and civilizations will be given a life, if its human rights are respected, and can be trusted without dishonor, shame, and lies.

The following are the hindrances for a worldwide brotherhood:

1. The disappearance of human rights.

2. Wrong beliefs in the implementation of agreements.

3. Taking advantage of other people.

4. Ignoring the wishes of other people.

5. Racial discrimination.

From a letter of Rizal to his friends:

If Spain does not wish to be a friend or brother to the Philippines, the Philippines does not wish it either. Her wish is the kindness from Spain and its justice, not pity. If the invasion of an another country will result to its hardship, it is preferable that the invading country will leave it and give its independence.

It is shown here Rizal's lasting desire of a friendship between Spain and the Philippines based from equality of rights.
