e.g. bailey is one of the most prominent spoken word artists in Minnesota. Since arriving to the Twin Cities in 1993, he has helped to establish recognition of spoken word as a valid art form, and not just a hobby for people getting up on stage reading out of their journals. He is a spoken word artist, historian and innovator, who has established many firsts in the art form of spoken word including the first spoken word conference, the first spoken word organization in Minnesota, the first spoken word record label, the first spoken word compilation of Minnesota, the first spoken word film in Minnesota, the first spoken word radio show in Minnesota, including many other firsts. He also created the first spoken word grant, called the Verve Grant, specifically created only for spoken word artists, and not just a writing or poetry grant that spoken word artists could apply for, but a grant solely by spoken word artists and judged by prominent national spoken word artists. In addition he has developed a new radio format called Spoken Word Conscious Movement, which features spoken word + conscious hip hop recordings that celebrate the art form and it's tradition and history, highlight recordings of prominent spoken word artists thru out history and from around the world. He has created spoken word work and projects in recordings, theatre, film and radio. He has been featured in numerous interveiws, articles and reviews in newspapers and weeklys in the Midwest, nationally and internationally, including Star Tribune, Pioneer Press, City Pages, The Pulse of the Twin Cities, the BBC, and others.
