E. Upton and Sons PLC, now Garner PLC was a department store chain based in Middlesborough, United Kingdom. It was later sold on to private investors and finally ceased trading early 2002. E. Upton and Sons owned stores across the North East of England and North Lincs, Uptons Scunthorpe (former House of Fraser store), Uptons Middlesbrough (now Psyche), Uptons Hartlepool (former Asda store), Uptons Redcar, Uptons Bishop Auckland, Uptons Northallerton, Uptons Newcastle (former Farnons of Newcastle), Uptons Stockton (now Home Bargains and Poundland). The Scunthorpe and Hartlepool stores where transferred to Westgate Department Stores (Anglia Regional Co-operative Society).
E. Upton and Sons also operated a number of other retail chains throughout its life, Graded Trading Company selling discount b-grade electricals, McKenna and Brown, Brittain Brothers of Rotheram and The Reject Shop PLC.
