[edit] History and Profile
In 2006, an unknown radio station broadcasting in the metro with a power of around 100 watts at 107.9 MHz. The station played nothing but club music, no call sign, no jocks, just a stinger saying "you're tuned to UnderGround Radio" and a recorded female voiceover mentioning a mobile phone number that served as a request line in between queues. The station would briefly shift frequencies to 108.0 MHz, 107.1 MHz and back to 107.9 MHz. Eventually, after its five months of broadcasting, the station suddenly shut down due to complaints filed by a neighboring FM radio station.[citation needed]
They returned known as Ten71 FM set on 107.1 MHz in April 2007. It played the same club music 24/7, but it ceased transmission for a few weeks in June 2007. Since it ceased transmission, "Hot 108 FM" ("live from New York City") was broadcast in its frequency for only 2 weeks.
The station went back on air after recalibrating its equipment and returned to 107.9 MHz and was known as 107.9 Underground Radio Manila. It is now owned and operated by Brainstone Broadcasting Inc, formed by a group of young entrepreneurs, which helped bring back the station on air. In October 2007, after finally acquiring its NTC permit it changed its name to 107.9 U Radio and started a show Deep Nights @ Opus Bar - broadcasted live every Friday nights with the same format. In addition, it also started doing live broadcast feeds from different bars and clubs in the metro.
