[edit] What it takes to get into Wikipedia

Got your message.

Twenty or thirty garage bands a day try to get in, and most are quickly tossed out. Usually, it's easy to tell who rates getting in. The basic standard is two albums on a major label, or some big award like a Grammy, or a platinum record, or lots of airplay, or a big article in Spin - you know, the usual "success" stuff. That's what WP:BAND is all about. If you have two CDs you can buy on Amazon, no problem.

Nobody really knows what to do yet about "Myspace bands", or "Soundclick bands". Which is why you're hitting a wall. "Hollywood Undead", which is big on Myspace but unknown off it, tried to get in and couldn't.

The other thing is that you don't usually put yourself into Wikipedia - if you're famous enough to be there, someone else will write about you. "Vanity articles" tend to get stomped on. Also, if you write a vanity article, and you have some bad stuff in your life that can be found out, like an arrest record, somebody will probably find it and put it in. (Of course, in hip hop, that's cred, but for people running a business, it's a career killer.)

Anyway, good luck, and if you ever get two CDs out, one of your fans will probably put you in Wikipedia. Thanks. --John Nagle 18:22, 3 July 2006 (UTC)
