[edit] History

Foreseeing the application of a comprehensive instruction of the broadcast media arts, several key equipment were purchased under the university's procurements program so that the future students and indeed graduates of embryonic Mass Communications center would have hands on experience on equipment operation. However, the programming was then limited to FM (Frequency Modulation) formats only. By 1991, AM or Amplitude Modulation programming was included so as to maximize the exposure of the students of Mass Communication to the different radio programs currently being used in the mainstream radio industry. By inclusion of the AM format on the programming, students were further exposed to distinctly different form of radio management and programming. The Development Communications instructions were also applied in the radio programming in order to prepare the students and to give them n academic experience regarding to other form of broadcasting, which is developmental in nature. In 1993, when the department of Mass Communication was applying for autonomy from the College of Arts and Science, the instructions of the elements of broadcasting were given emphasis. By this time, the campus radio station became a most important training and hands-on tool used by the students to sharpen their knowledge and skills they need and to acquire the necessary experience prior to graduation. In the year 2001, the Institute of Mass Communications was finally and officially recognized as the College of Mass Communications and also saw the installation in the radio station of computerized broadcasting equipment and digitalization of production systems to keep up with the fast pace of developments in technology, in particular, in the field of communications. By the year 2001, the campus radio station has become an integral part of instruction system of the College of Mass Communications, providing hands-on experience and comprehensive simulation of actual operations in a real radio station, thereby better equipping the graduates of the College of necessary skills to be applied to their future careers. The radio station has been a good academy for region's best and well respected broadcasters.
