[edit] T-Man

I'm attempting to take a break from Wikipedia so I'll keep this brief. T-Man did not accuse you of lying, if you read his exact words and contextualise them, and take account of his poor english, he was stating that you were mistaken. I'd suggest you simply stop checking his contributions entirely, because it seems to cause you distress. I don't quite understand why you would keep choosing to place yourself in such stressful situations. I think you need to consider how important T-Man's opinion of you is to you, and ultimately, how much credence you believe T-Man's opinion will be given. The area in which T-Man was discussing your actions, that of disambiguation phrases, is in actual fact a grey area, and it would seem the naming conventions do support hs view rather than yours. Your edits are of immense value to Wikipedia, but editing is only half of it. We have very important user conduct policies as well, and you have to respect them too to be a useful contributor. I believe you are fully capable, and in fact over the last two days your contributions have borne this out, of following such guidance. You really need to work out what is most important to you; contributing to Wikipedia following the guidance and policies, or T-Man's editing. If it is the latter, then I think your judgement is going to be coloured and you'll end up breaching key policies regarding user conduct. That's just my two cents. So, I'm not going to block T-Man here, I don't think he has actually defamed you or harrassed you. If you wish to take legal action, that is your choice, but Wikipedia policy dictates you must be blocked until such legal action is finished, so as not to involve Wikipedia in the dispute.

As to the page in his user space, it will have to be listed on WP:MFD if T-Man will not allow me to delete it. I would advise you to let me attempt to get this deleted with consent, or otherwise list it at MFD to avoid further inflaming the situation. I appreciate I am asking you to trust me on this. Steve block Talk 09:42, 27 July 2006 (UTC)

I'd like to just echo the most important thing (IMO) Steve said, "I think you need to consider how important T-Man's opinion of you is to you, and ultimately, how much credence you believe T-Man's opinion will be given." Even if someone judged you harshly by looking at T-Man's immense catalog of your "errors," all it would take is for that person to actually look at your contributions to see that you are a great editor who is not a raving lunatic/jerk. Who cares what he thinks? Your edits speak for themselves. Likewise his edits speak for themselves too. Don't get too hung up on it. Another thing to notice is that the problems have not magically disappeared since you backed off. See you around. --Gillespee 21:36, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
  • T-Man has edited the page somewhat, is this acceptable? I appreciate there are comments in there that need amending, but I don't have the time right this second, but could you tell me if you are happy to live with the basic structure and general content? If not I will take it to mfd. Bear in mind at that point it will be the community's decision on whether to delete the page or not. Having seen a few mfd discussion of similar content, it could go either way. I can't delete it as it doesn't meet any WP:CSD criteria. If you wish to involve other admins in this I am open to that. You might also wish to consider an advocate who would speak to T-Man on your behalf, but please do not approach him directly. Steve block Talk 21:58, 27 July 2006 (UTC)
I agree that he can be very frustrating to deal with -- but I'd encourage you to be very thoughtful in your responses to him and avoid anything that can be misconstrued as harassment. Sometimes his idiosyncratic perspectives are unavoidable (seeing "significant" as an attack, for instance) but other times -- such as your response to his checkuser request -- you could be doing a more to avoid instigating him. He definitely picks up on it when you're flippant, but instead of seeing it as jocular, he sees it as mockery and harassment. To point: he's been over-the-top, but you've been rational enough to knew when there is a need to tread lightly.

Good luck -- I'll probably be away from Wikipedia for a while. ~CS 14:22, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

Sock puppet
Sock puppet

I laughed out loud when I see saw the puppet on my Talk Page. Very nice. It will remain there as a badge of honor for years to come, especially since I don't think the RfCU is actually going to happen since there is no evidence for T-Man to present. Have you editted any Canadaian articles out of curiosity, because I have editted a number of Utah ones a couple of times. Anyway, it was very polite of you to confirm that I am not your puppet. Later, Gillespee 22:51, 30 July 2006 (UTC)

You can say that again. It seems like the RfCUs are pretty strict and I haven't seen much evidence really presented that would convince anyone. Which honestly is a shame because I'd really like him to know that I am not your puppet. Anyways, if you ever do get bored, check out my decidely non-Canadian hometown, which I might add, I've editted a couple of times.--Gillespee 05:02, 31 July 2006 (UTC)
Did you see? The verdict is in!--Gillespee 20:00, 31 July 2006 (UTC)

Enjoy your break!--Gillespee 04:55, 1 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Compound modifiers

Please read up on compound modifiers before you change any more correct "science-fiction works" or "science-fiction movies", etc. to the incorrect usage without the hyphen. It is indeed correct write "I love to read science fiction." It is *incorrect* to write "I love my favorite science fiction writer, Robert Heinlein." Robert Heinlein is a "science-fiction writer". Hayford Peirce 17:12, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

  • I don't have to "pick" a definition -- I have to pick the CORRECT usage. Please read the article about compound modifiers. Hayford Peirce 17:19, 22 October 2006 (UTC)
Please take a look at my comment on Talk:science fiction and the link I provided. "Science-fiction" or "science fiction" are correct depending on the combinations' part of speech in a sentence. --EEMeltonIV 20:52, 22 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] User:T-man, the Wise Scarecrow unblocked

I have unblocked T-man. He has indicated he is prepared to change his ways, and I believe it is worth giving him a second chance. This is a courtesy note, since you were involved in the case which saw him blocked. Hope you are keeping well, Steve block Talk 20:12, 23 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Batgirlbettebatmite.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Batgirlbettebatmite.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BetacommandBot 01:41, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Image copyright problem with Image:America2040.jpg

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:America2040.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 04:13, 26 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Future films

Hi, I've redirected Azazel (2009 film) to The Winter Queen (novel) because per the notability guidelines for films, films do not warrant their own articles until they enter production. There are films that are purported to enter production, but due to the nature of the film industry, they do not always do so. Take a look at examples like Spider-Man 4, Jurassic Park IV, The Hobbit (2009 film), and Logan's Run (2010 film) to see how information about projects not yet in production are kept at their source materials' articles. —Erik (talkcontrib) - 15:17, 22 October 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Disputed fair use rationale for Image:World's Finest.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:World's Finest.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 08:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:GiveMeLiberty01.jpg

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:GiveMeLiberty01.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Project FMF (talk) 18:19, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edmonton meetup

Hello - I'm contacting you with this message because you have listed youself in Category:Wikipedians in Edmonton - if you are not actually in Edmonton, I apologize for bothering you; unfortunately, the sort of spamming I'm doing isn't conducive to reading everybody's userpages thoroughly. I am investigating the possibility of creating a Wikipedia meetup in Edmonton for sometime during the spring or summer of 2008. If you're interested, please visit Wikipedia:Meetup/Edmonton, add yourself to the list of interested editors, and watchlist the page. Cheers, Sarcasticidealist (talk) 23:48, 27 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:America2040.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:America2040.jpg. You've indicated that the image meets Wikipedia's criteria for non-free content, but there is no explanation of why it meets those criteria. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. If you have any questions, please post them at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions.

Thank you for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI (talk) 01:34, 21 May 2008 (UTC)
