Dysart is a town in central Queensland, Australia, located in the Isaac Region. Established in 1973, Dysart is a service centre for the nearby Norwich Park and Saraji coal mines, as well as grazing properties in the district. Most residents are employed by the coal mines. At the 2001 census, Dysart had a population of 2,640.[1]
Prussian explorer Ludwig Leichhardt explored the region in 1845, climbing the summit of nearby Campbells Peak.
Dysart is home to Norwich Park Mines Day, held to increase the public's knowledge of the mining industry.
Rugby League is a very popular sport in Dysart. Dysart junior team is named 'Dysart Bulls' with team colours being red, black and white. The senior team is also called 'Dysart Bulls' and has about six home games a year.
Dysart State High school has around two hundred students.The High School holds an annual Fete.
A local periodical was called the Dysardian and it's strapline was "Did you start a rumour today" which works was formed from each letter of the town name, and being a small isolated town rumours did spread like wildfire.[citation needed]
