From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Elephant head, or Little elephants (Pedicularis groenlandica) is a member of the figwort family. The plant is typically found in boggy lowland areas, and derives its name from the flower which appears as one of many on a spike 20 - 30 cm tall. Each individual flower bears a resemblance to an elephant head, complete with ears and trunk. The leaves are fernlike. This is an early-season arrival - it blooms from late June through until early August
