[edit] Contradiction

The media and the current article is in direct contradiction with the article from Fierce by Imani Henry available here and numerous other places. This view is not even mentioned, and it should be, given that it chronicles a recent/ongoing event (there is to be developed an appeal).

In my personal view, it's absolutely staggering that discrimination of this sort is supported so strongly by the media. The surveillance tape shows Dwayne on top of one of the women, choking her. This is assault with potentially lethal force, and self-defense is a right protected by the constitution of America.

All of the seven women knew and went to school with Sakia Gunn, a 19-year-old butch lesbian who was stabbed to death in Newark, N.J., in May 2003. Paralleling the present case, Gunn was out with three of her friends when a man made sexual advances to one of the women. When she replied that she was a lesbian and not interested, he attacked them. Gunn fought back and was stabbed to death.

“You can’t help but wonder that if Sakia Gunn had a weapon, would she be in jail right now?” Bran Fenner, a founding member and co-executive director of FIERCE, told Workers World. “If we don’t have the right to self-defense, how are we supposed to survive?”

This article should either be closed or links referring to the other view should be brought into the picture. Danielfong 17:08, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Ironic that after being attacked like this (strangled and hair torn out) they went across the street to eat at Mcdonalds. If they were victims, why didn't they call an ambulance (for themselves and their victim) and also call the police?

Furthermore, these references to the videotape are not supported by unbiased sources. -- The judge made clear that he believed the women, ages 19 to 25 and all from Newark, N.J., were guilty. He said a surveillance tape of the fight was "damning" and "I believe that but for the videotape there would have been an acquittal." -- http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/19233888/

  • The story on the defense side was that none of the girls were severely injured, nor, it was argued, was it known to them that Buckle was severely injured. This is consistent with another assailant doing the stabbing. Danielfong 18:31, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Extensive coverage of the stabbing

  • I have no reason to disbelive anything that is written in this article or to defend the actions of Dwayne Buckel but the additions to this article are poorly written and turn the entire content into a smear site. I am removing the majority of these edits. I suggest you write an article on the seven women who were charged with assulting Buckel and include that info there. If the article is put up for an afd I will support it being kept. --The Emperor of Wikipedia 14:35, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
    • Don't remove the material. The better way to do this would be to create a new article on the incident, move the bulk of the material about it there (with a link/summary, of course), and leave this article to be about his other accomplishments. --Eyrian 14:42, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
      • I have allready removed the material. It went far beyond what you could expect to find in a bio and was not within the bounds for the policy for bios on a living person. --The Emperor of Wikipedia 15:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
        • The complete removal of this cited material is inappropriate. It should be spun-off or restored, not deleted. If nobody else steps up to the plate, I will. --Eyrian 15:21, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
        • Blanket deletions of cited material are against wikipedia policy. In controversial cases such as these the goal is to write about and respect the existence of debate. The media source you used are even cited on Wikipedia as showing strong conservative bias, and the case is moderately well known in GLBT circles as being (potentially) a case of judicial discrimination, a concept which is not unheard of. The content must be either restored or spun into an article about the incident. I am reverting unless we can reach agreement. Danielfong 15:49, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
          • New article made, present at Johnson vs. Buckle I'm not sure if the title or format is correct. Danielfong 16:04, 16 July 2007 (UTC)
