Dwayne Woods

Dwayne Woods (born in Bluefield, West Virginia) was an American football running back and return specialist for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Woods came to West Virginia as a freshman in 1973. Woods earned the starting role after the former-starter Artie Owens suffered an injury. Woods led the team in rushing his freshman year with 818 yards and 4 touchdowns.

As a sophomore in 1974, Woods played backup to Owens, who now was recovered. While Owens rushed for over 1,000 yards, Woods only got 6 carries for 71 yards.

In his junior season of 1975, Woods saw backup time to Owens again, who rushed for 1,000 yards for the consecutive season. Woods rushed for 493 yards and a career-high 6 touchdowns his junior campaign, along with 215 kick return yards on the season.

As a senior in 1976, Woods finally saw starting time with the departure of Artie Owens. Woods rushed for a career-high 588 yards and a touchdown, while accumulating 340 kick return yards for his best season.
