Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering

Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi College of Engineering (D.J. Sanghvi, or DJ, as it is popularly known), is a well-known engineering college in Mumbai. It is located on B.S. Marg in the Vile Parle area. Established in 1994, the college is consistently ranked among the top 5 colleges in Mumbai. It has been awarded an A+ grade rating by the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE).

The college has an intake capacity of 360 students in 7 branches for Bachelor of Engineering degree:-

  1. Chemical Engineering - 60 seats
  2. Electronics Engineering - 60 seats
  3. Production Engineering - 30 seats
  4. Biomedical Engineering - 30 seats
  5. Electronics & Telecommunication Engineering - 60 seats
  6. Information Technology - 60 seats
  7. Computer Engineering - 60 seats

The college has an advanced infrastructure which includes a wi-fi equipped library, airconditioned classrooms, a gymnasium, gymkhana and a conference room. It is affiliated to the University of Mumbai. The college is part of the Shri Vile Parle Kelavani Mandal (SVKM) trust [1].

The college has 50% of the seats reserved for Gujarati speaking students (linguistic minority).

The annual cultural festival of the college is knows as "Parichay".It is held in February or March every year and is attended by engineering students from colleges all over Mumbai.

The college is named after the pioneer of the pen industry in India, Dwarkadas J. Sanghvi. Born in Rajula, Gujarat on September 17, 1913 Dwarkadas was an enterprising, hard worker who traveled to Rangoon, Calcutta and eventually settled down in Bombay where he started Balkrishna Pens Private Ltd and introduced the very famous brand of fountain pens - Wilson. In fact India's constitution was written by Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar with a Wilson pen.

But while business was his passion he was deeply involved in the community, a great visionary he always believed in education as the means to growth. Apart from D.J Sanghvi, he also founded the Amrutben Jivanlal College of Commerce and Economics (also known as Mithibai Commerce) along with many other donations to the schools, colleges, and various other institutions.
