Dwarf (Artemis Fowl)

Dwarves are one of the eight fairy families found throughout the Artemis Fowl series. Their natural habitat is underground and digging in the mines. A notable dwarf in the series is Mulch Diggums. Dwarves are scroungers, they will eat almost anything if they are hungry.
Dwarves are usually found tunnelling under the earth. Their appearance is distinguished by their short and round build. They are hairy and have a mass of beard hair that is sensitive to almost everything. Dwarf skin can act like suction cups if dehydrated. This is an adaptation that allows them to absorb moisture through their pores from the rocks in case of a cave-in in the tunnels. However, dwarves can survive for weeks without drinking anything. Their jaws are unhingeable allowing dwarves to excavate tunnels, with large tombstone teeth able to ground just about anything. Also, dwarf spittle hardens on contact with air and glows in the dark.
Dwarves, like all fairies, adore precious gems and gold. Due to this, they have criminal tendencies.
