[edit] Overview
DUY TAN University (DTU; Vietnamese: Đại học Dân lập Duy Tân) is located in the heart of Da Nang city, the biggest city in the central region of Vietnam.
Duy Tan University was the first private university in central Vietnam, and one of the first four private universities in Vietnam. At the present time, the university has had a staff of 200 lecturers (among more than 300 employees) and a student population of 6,000 at any given time. Duy Tan University has always been multi-faceted with a variety of training tracks at different academic levels. Indeed, it helps meet the need for knowledge of various social-economic parties as well as the need for strong economic growth in Vietnam.
At the present time, Duy Tan University has 5 campuses, four of which are located in the heart of Da Nang city with the total area of 12,000 m² (5 campuses of 50,000 m²). Also situated halfway between the north and the south of Vietnam, DTU is conveniently accessible from Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh city (Sai Gon), and other regions of Vietnam by road, rail, and air.
DTU has built up a good relation with over 50 universities worldwide, in countries like America, Canada, Australia, Singapore, New Zealand, India, Thailand, etc. This helps create an international atmosphere at Duy Tan University.
Duy Tan University was awarded the Gold Cup of Vietnamese Brand-Names by the Association of Vietnamese Intellectual Property on January 4 2005 for its high-quality education and reputation. This serves as a strong evidence of the top ranking and appreciation that the public has for Duy Tan University. The motto of “Vietnamese Spirit, Innovation, Creativity, Rising up to New Heights” continues to be the heart mission of Duy Tan University.
[edit] Founding of DTU
On August 15 1992, Mr. Le Cong Co, Mr. Le Phuoc Thuy and Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc met to form a committee, campaigning for the establishment of the “Private University of the Central (of Vietnam).”
A year later, this campaigning committee had eventually met all the requirements of the Ministry of Education & Training (of Vietnam), and on September 15, 1993, the Minister of Education & Training signed a formal decision, recognizing the Council of University Founders for the “Private University of the Central (of Vietnam).”
On October 13, 1994, the Ministry of Education and Training (of Vietnam) issued the Formal Document No. 129/TCCB for the establishment of the (people-founded) Duy Tan University. And on November 11, 1994, the Prime Minister of Vietnam, Mr. Vo Van Kiet signed the Decision No. 666/TTg to formally recognize the establishment of Duy Tan University. The original name for the university was changed to Duy Tan (which means "Innovation") upon the request of Ms. Nguyen Thi Loc. (Incidentally, Duy Tan is also the name of a Vietnamese Emperor of the Nguyen Dynasty, one of only two monarchs of that royal house that is still universally revered by the Vietnamese people. Emperor Duy Tan was known for his anti-colonialist activities on behalf of Vietnamese independence. He was exiled by the French authorities to Reunion Island and he died in a plane crash in 1945 while on his way back to Vietnam)
