Dutchess County Fair

The Dutchess County Fair is held annually in Rhinebeck, New York on August 21 through 27. The fair was started in 1845 mainly as an old-fashioned agricultural event in which farmers would come and show off their livestock and crops. The fair now is still rural and old-fashioned styled with around 1600 head of livestock ranging from cattle, to sheep, hogs, goats, horses, goats and rabits that are shown to the fairs visitor inbarns and stables, then judged for excellence. The winning animal receives a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place ribbon. Other contests and showings include vegetables, field crops, fruits, baked goods and crafts. These too will be judged based on quality of the item. The fair also has shows and exhibits. and events such as hay bale tossing and husband calling.
