Hello, Dustybunny, and welcome to Wikipedia. Thank you for your contributions. I hope you like the place and decide to stay. If you are stuck, and looking for help, please come to the New contributors' help page, where experienced Wikipedians can answer any queries you have! Or, you can just type {{helpme}}
and your question on your user talk page, and someone will show up shortly to answer. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- The Five Pillars of Wikipedia
- How to edit a page
- Editing tutorial
- Picture tutorial
- How to write a great article
- Naming conventions
- Manual of Style
We hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wikipedian! By the way, you can sign your name on talk and vote pages using four tildes, like this: ~~~~. If you have any questions, see the help pages, add a question to the village pump or ask me on my talk page. Again, welcome!. BuickCenturyDriver (Honk, contribs, odometer) 23:48, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Adoption
Hi Dustybunny. Sure, I can adopt you if you like. There's a few links in the above welcome message that would be a good start. Wikipedia:How to edit a page is a good starting point. Editing Wikipedia pages is very easy - just click 'edit'. I see you have made a few edits already, and they all look fine to me. The best advice I had when I started is to only edit pages on topics you're knowledgable about (at least at first!), and when you add new information, try and provide a reference for it. If you want to practice editing, you can do so at the sandbox - see Wikipedia:Sandbox.
The other good bit of starting advice is that you will notice that a lot of links you will see on talk pages start with "Wikipedia:". This means they are in the Wikipedia space. This is used for pages about Wikipedia. Those that start with "User:" (such as your user page) are in the user space. Articles are in the article space.
Use your user page to tell a little about yourself (if you want to), see Wikipedia:User page for the sort of things you might like to put on there.
If you want an indepth guide, see Wikipedia:Tutorial. You will find that people are generally very friendly, and we try to encourage this. Users are always asked to be civil, and explain their actions (often we use the edit summaries for this). Whether you want to learn about "wiki mark up", find something to do, or just talk, please ask me any questions as you go along on my talk page - good luck, and happy editing! [edit] Reverting vandalism
Hi Dustbunny, thanks for removing nonsense from Order of the British Empire. When you see something like that, it's worth clicking on the History tab and comparing different versions -- in that case, the vandal had removed a whole paragraph as well as adding a line, so it was necessary to revert to a previous version. There's also a handy Undo button, although this only works for the single latest change. You'll soon get the hang of it. Again, welcome! - Fayenatic london (talk) 08:59, 11 April 2007 (UTC)
[edit] History of computer hardware in Soviet Bloc countries
Hey Dustybunny. There's a cleanup template that goes into a bit more detail - {{cleanup-rewrite}}. I've put that one there on the article. You can either clean it up yourself as and when you do get time, or someone else will get around to it sooner or later - there's no rush! How's everything going? Neil ☎ 09:36, 10 December 2007 (UTC)
