[edit] Qualifications

Any Wikipedia editor is welcome to try for a triple crown. Seven types of award are available:

  • Standard Triple Crown - editor qualifies once in each category
  • Imperial Triple Crown Jewels - editor qualifies for 2-4 standard triple crowns
  • Imperial Napoleonic Triple Crown - editor qualifies for 5-14 standard triple crowns
  • Alexander the Great Edition Triple Laurel Crown - editor qualifies for 15 or more standard triple crowns
  • Valiant Return Triple Crown - editor qualifies for a triple crown after an arbitration sanction or a legitimately lifted siteban.
  • Special Edition WikiProject Triple Crowns - available to WikiProjects. See section below.
  • Great Triple Crown Race of 2008 - four special awards available to editors who satisfy all triple crown requirements between 1 January 2008 and 14 February 2008.

For purposes of these awards a major contributor would generally be someone who contributed at least ten line citations to an article. Any type of featured content counts toward a triple crown. Editors may mix and match different types of featured material when requesting the imperial triple crown jewels. For featured pictures a nominator may qualify who is not the original uploader if the nominator did other significant work that was important to passing WP:FPC such as image cleanup or description research. A single article could count for all three categories if the same editor contributed to its DYK, GA, and FA recognition, but an editor must receive at least one nod in each category to earn the triple crown and at least two nods in each category to receive the imperial triple crown jewels, etc.

Please note that triple crowns are awarded in sets. This page does not reflect unequal contributions. So an editor who earned twelve featured pictures, twenty DYKs, and two GAs will only get two of each category listed. Please select submissions accordingly, and thank you for helping Wikipedia.

An actual steeplechase race from London, 1908.

A steeplechase was originally a type of horse race where competitors hurried to the nearest church steeple, and developed into a formal race across an obstacle course of various challenges. Modern steeplechases can be either foot races or equestrian events.

The new Wikipedia steeplechase applies the idea of varied accomplishments to editing. It isn't exactly a triple crown; it's a challenge to contribute different types of featured content. To qualify for a steeplechase award, an editor must be a major contributor to at least 5 of Wikipedia's 6 different types of featured content:

No good articles or Did you know? entries are required for the steeplechase. Just create as many different kinds of featured content as possible. Submit steeplechase nominations to the same page as triple crown nominations. Pride of place and a special unique award will go to the first Wikipedian to complete the steeplechase requirements.

[edit] Special edition WikiProject triple crowns

Special edition triple crown awards are available to WikiProjects. The award itself will be a custom image Photoshopped from freely licensed images that combines the triple crown theme with a theme from the WikiProject's area of interest. The award goes to the WikiProject itself, with copies distributed to each project member who helps the project qualify. This section will honor triple crown WikiProjects by hosting an image of each project award along with the usernames and contributions of the editors who earned it.

To qualify, the WikiProject must have five or more members who qualify for a standard triple crown on the basis of editing work for that project.
