Durru Shehvar Children's & General Hospital is a Non-Government and Non-Profit Hospital in Hyderabad, India
The Asif Jahis of erstwhile Hyderabad Deccan have always been pioneers in establishing various institutions like Osmania General Hospital and Medical College, Fever Hospital, Nizamia Tibbi College at Charminar, Victoria Zanana Hospital presently known as Government Maternity Hospital, Nizam Orthopedic Hospital which has been converted to Nizam's Institute of Medical Sciences (NIMS) and many Educational establishments were set up by the Royal Family.
Her Highness Princess Durru Shehvar, Princess of Berar (Daughter in Law of Nizam VII of the State of Hyderabad) laid the foundation stone for Princess Durru Shehvar Children's and General Hospital [PDSCGH]. It was established in the year 1989 with the mission to provide Quality Medical Care to pre and post natal care to pregnant women and medical care facilities to children and later expanded its services to the General Specialties. The hospital is a Non-Government and Non-Profit organization. To provide affordable Health care to General Public the charges for medical services are markedly subsidized making them affordable and accessible to all sections of the society without any compromise on Quality of Treatment . The Hospital is run by the “Princess Durru Shehvar Children's Medical Aid Society”. It is spread over an area of 11,300 square yards with ample space for different facilities. It has 200-bed capacity and it is a full fledged modern Hospital for advance treatment in Paediatrics, Paediatric Surgery, Reproductive Health [GYN and OBS], Internal Medicine, Cardiology [Non-interventional], General Surgery Orthopaedic and Fracture treatment, Physiotheraphy, Fracture treatment, Physiotheraphy, Dental Surgery, E.N.T, Ophthalmology, etc. Through conscious efforts the Hospital Board has brought radical changes in Management, consequent upon re-organization, the Hospital has undergone a turnaround in its outlook. Under the new management the Hospital's objective is to achieve all round improvement in all its services. As a result it is upgrading its Pediatric Department with the introduction of 8 bedded Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in addition to Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) equipped with Neonatal Ventilators, Phototherapy units and Centralized Cardiac Monitors it is one of the highly equipped and sophisticated NICU in the city with over 70 Nursing and Maternity Homes in and around the city referring Neonates with complications.
The Paediatric unit is managed by highly qualified consultants with specialized training in Paediatric Pulmonology and Cardiology; qualified Paediatricians are available round the clock for all Paediatric emergencies. The Paediatric surgical unit is attached to this department by an experienced Paediatric Surgeon.
The hospital has appointed Dr. Iqbal Jehan Professor Gynaecology & Obstetrics as HOD Department of Reproductive Health apart from Dr. Shabnam Raza and Dr. Qutub Unnisa. The Department is completely equipped to provide comprehensive Maternity services with critical case for high-risk pregnancies attached with 10 bedded Labour room. The Department provides excellent pre-natal delivery and postnatal care. Facilities for treating all major and minor gynecological procedures are undertaken. It also provides treatment for childless, Menopause, adolescent problems. For complete privacy of women patients hospital has a 30-bed Female General Ward. Hospital has announced a Normal Delivery package of Rs. 1200/-.
The Cardiac Care Unit has most modern Intensive Coronary Care Unit (ICCU) with advanced and centralized Cardiac monitors, Ventilators, Infusion pumps and other life support devices. The department of Cardiology also equipped with other diagnostic equipments like 2D Echo with color Doppler, computerized tread mill etc. it has upgraded its ICCU/CCU emergency services with the round the clock availability of a team of highly qualified Emergency Specialty Doctors (Intensivists) specialized in managing emergencies with ventilator and other life support systems.
The department of General surgery is equipped with highly sophisticated 3 Major Operation Theaters. Operation Theater has been upgraded with advanced cardiac monitors and availability of 24-hour anaesthetist services. The surgical unit is attached to this department by highly skilled surgeons Dr. SV Masood, Dr. Hamid Hussain and Dr. Deepak Sharma. A two-day ‘ Surgery package of Rs. 6000/- is in place for Hernia, Hydrocoel, and Fistula and Fissure.
The department of Urology has modern facilities for treatment of disease of Kidney, Prostatic obstruction, Kidney stone etc.
The Gastroenterology unit of the Hospital provides treatment for Gastroenterological problems of Pancreas, Liver and Stomach. The unit is equipped with latest generation fiber optic Endoscopes/ Gastroscope, Colonoscope and higher grade Laproscopic equipment for Laproscopic surgeries. The Gastroenterology surgical unit is attached to this department Dr. D.V.L. Narayana Rao MS MCh (Surgical Gastroenterologist) [AIIMS-New Delhi].
The department of Orthopaedic is run by one of the top-quality surgeon's of the city Dr. Radha Kishan Rao, an expert in treating Neonatal (Congenital and Adult Orthopedic problems) e.g.': -Deformed feet, Knee joint dislocation, multiple fractures, open fractures, spinal problems, fractures in the elderly people with the latest technique using C-Arm machine (Image Intensifier) well versed with joint problems. Expertise in treating disease of bones and joints with or without surgeries. Has the ability to make elderly people walk within 24-48 hours.
The department of plastic and re-constructive surgery is well equipped to perform all types of plastic surgery such as correction of Birth defects, cleft lip, cleft palate, face lift, reduction and augmentation Mammoplasty, Rhinoplasty and Maxillo facial surgery. It has excellent facility for treating burns cases with 4 bedded specialised Burn's ward. The department is managed by highly skilled Cosmetic and Burn's surgeon Dr. Niranjini.
Hospital has recently procured a High Grade Ophthalmic Operating Microscope, Slit Lamp, Ophthalmoscope for undertaking all kinds of Eye related problems and Eye surgeries
Diagnostic lab of the Hospital is one of the largest with the capacity to undertake every kind of investigations. The lab services are equipped with sophisticated fully automated and semi-automated analyzers. Skilled and experienced staff mans the lab. The lab of the Hospital is certified as one among the best labs of the country by certifying agencies, the test results are highly dependable. Hospital has upgraded its Radiology department by installing a new high frequency; low radiation technology SIEMENS X-ray machine which minimizes harmful radiations but maintains high image quality the department also has procured an imported high resolution ATL HDI 3000 Colour Doppler Ultrasound
In its plans to expand and improve its services hospital has inducted new consultants for Pulmonology, Neurology, Surgical Gastroenterology, and Dentistry. The Hospital is a certified teaching hospital for PG courses [Diploma National Board (DNB)] in Paediatric, Gyn/Obs, Radiology, General Medicine and Pathology. Hospital has also established new colleges for BSc Medical Lab Technology, Bachelor of Physiotherapy, college of BSc Nursing and School of Nursing with an intake of 50 students each. These colleges are affiliated to NTR university of Health Sciences Vijayawada .
