Durrat Al Bahrain

Durrat Al Bahrain is an artificial island project in Bahrain. It is similar to the Palm Islands in Dubai, United Arab Emirates.

The US$ 1.2 billion project will be a series of 13 man-made islands covering an area of 20 million square meters (215.3 million square feet). It will comprise of six atolls (coral lagoon islands), five petal islands (fish-shaped), a crescent-shaped island, five-star hotels, a 18-hole golf course, 12 bridges, and a marina.[1]

Work on the $6 billion landmark Durrat Al Bahrain project was hit on the 9th of Feb 2008 as more than 1,300 laborers downed tools in a dispute over pay. Workers from the GP Zacharides company, who are based at a labour camp in the landmark Durrat Al Bahrain development, went on strike demanding better salaries and complaining of poor living conditions.[2]
