Coordinates: Durganagar is a little suburb of Kolkata, though administratively under the district of North 24 Parganas. The town is about 16 km. from Sealdah station towards Bongaon and 1km. west to Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport. It was named after goddess Durga.

[edit] Geography
It is a part of North Dum Dum Municipality since 2000. Previously it was under Sultanpur . Its population is about 50,000. Most of the people are Hindu. Only about 2-3 hundreds of Muslim population are residing to its eastern side. Main landmark of this town is Durganagar Rly. Station, which is on the Kolkata Bongaon line of the Kolkata suburban railway network of Kolkata. The place is very close to the Kolkata Airport also.

The place is named after the goddess Durga. Almost 3-4 Durga puja's pandels are set up during the main festive season. The main Puja is the "Durganagar Sarbajanin puja", which is set up at the main playground near Durganagar X Roads (Chou rasta).
Even Kali Puja is celebrated in a GRAND fashion there....Durganagar sporting Club organizes this event in their own prestigious way.
But the main celebration is on the 31st December, when Big open air stage is made where renowned singers from Bengal and Bollywood performs. The entire shows ends with a massive display of fireworks at midnight welcoming the new year in a grand style.

Almost all important places are near the train station.
This place very near to several good schools like Auxillium Convent, Kishore Bharati, KK Hindu Academy, Christchurch, Aditya Academy, and Motijheel Girls.
It has its own post office, Allahabad Bank, a market and several playgrounds. Almost the whole population is constituted by 4-5 member small families with a single earning member. Many of them are servicemen (state/central govt. jobs), people working in IT indistries and Doctors and Engineers. Residents commute daily to Kolkata through local train or by autoride to Airport which is a huge junction. Even the Calcutta METRO is a good option for people to commute to Central Calcutta.

Its just 1 km from the NSCB International Airport and falls within the Dum Dum locality, but still one can find plenty of greenaries around with lots of cocunut trees around. In the morning the sweet sound of chirping of birds reminds of a nostalgic old Kolkata. This place is almost pollution free with lots of green all around. Facities are adequate enough with almost everything nearby.

There are 4 high schools and 4 primary schools there. Durganagar has nearly 100% literacy rate. There are 4 public library also. The famous Bengali poet Satyendranath Dutta was from here.[citation needed]
