Maybe that just compounds the confusion. For those unfamiliar with the IPA, how will they know whether "eIn" rhymes with "rein" or "nein" without visiting the link? Perhaps the less sophisticated "doo-kayne" solution suggested above might be better (or just "doo-kane"). I've heard folks here in California insist that it's pronounced "doo-kwez-nee" (the "eIn" thing won't help them a bit).

I've started to built up the section on September 17's shooting that involved the Dukes basket team - I've got lot of info because of the injured (I believe it was the most critical one was a Canadian and the Canadian Press was coverage of the shooting. --JForget 00:09, 18 September 2006 (UTC)

The shooters had no connection to the university at all. They were brought to the event by a university student who has since been expelled. The student was expelled because she knew that they were carrying guns and helped them to get past security.Wikiant 13:02, 13 October 2006 (UTC)

It seems bizarre to me that an entire section should be dedicated to a single shooting incident that occurred at the school. How is that of equal importance to things like "Athletics", "Academics", or "Notable Alumni"? In five years, are people going to remember the shooting incident when they think of Duquesne University? [edit] Shooting Perspective

I just took a look at the article for the University of Texas, and the entire Charles Whitman sniper-in-the-tower incident (14 killed and 30 injured) is given a single paragraph. This party thing at Duquesne should be deleted in its entirety, as there are similar or worse assaults at campuses everywhere on a routine basis. Very well. I'm working at the moment to expand the history section, or to find more to add to the main article, such as "Spiritan presence", "campus" etc. (Most of the athletics should be in the Duquesne Dukes article, I think). If there are any suggestions for new sections, I would like to hear them. I'm a student at Duquesne, so I have access to appropriate materials if need be. We don't trim sections for being too long. We do however, sometimes split them off into separate "sub-articles". Wikipedia:Summary style has more information about doing this. — CharlotteWebb 08:33, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm aware of that, there's already a Duquesne Dukes article. I think it's odd that the athletics section is much longer than all the rest of the article. Maybe some of the athletics parts would be better on the Duquesne Dukes article instead. --AW 15:43, 10 April 2007 (UTC)

I'm surprised that neither this article, nor the Duquesne Dukes article, mentions the five basketball players who have had their jerseys retired, especially Willie Somerset (1963-65). If you feel like digging for an interesting rivalry story, both Willie Somerset and Brian Generalovich came out of powerhouse Farrell HS in the early '60s. Willie starred at Duquesne and Brian starred at Pitt. If memory serves, Brian used up his basketball eligibility, then enrolled in grad school and played a season on the football team. Willie also had an interesting career, but I don't remember very much off the top of my head. If you're a student at Duquesne, you can easily look into it.
