Dunin (surname)

The Polish surname Dunin originated with the 12th century with Piotr Wlast Dunin. [1] He was Palatine of Poland and the castellan of Wroclaw (Silesia), as well as, Brother in law of King Bolesław III Wrymouth (Boleslaw Krzywousty). The coat of arms is the Łabędź (swan).
- Peter Wlast, Polish Piotr Włostowic, also known as 'Piotr Wlast Dunin', Silesian noble and ruler (1080-1153).
- Princess Mariya (Maria), daughter of Grand Duke Sviatopolk II of Kiev and the Emperial Byzantine Princess Barbara Komnene (Komnenos Emperors), she married Piotr Włostowic and co-founded the Dunin family.
- Piotr Dunin On September 17, 1462 defeated the Teutonic Knights at Malbork castle during the Thirteen Years' War at the Battle of Świecino bringing an end to Teutonic control of the region. The Teutonic Knights were never able to recover from this defeat and the ones that followed. [2] [3] [4]
