The 2008-09 season covers the period from 1 July 2008 to 30 June 2009 and is the club's centenary year, having been founded as Dundee Hibernian in 1909.

[edit] Pre-season friendlies
The club will participate in the Keyline Tournament in Oban on 12 July[1] before embarking on a short trip to Dublin where they will play two friendlies against local sides.[2] Upon returning to Scotland, United will play first team matches away to Raith Rovers and Dunfermline Athletic,[2] plus a match at Arbroath[3] before a match against Barcelona for the second year running.[4] The friendlies culminate in a trip to Plymouth Argyle to face former Terror Paul Sturrock.[5]

The jerseys were sponsored for the first time by JD Sports' Carbrini label.[6][7]
The club has no third strip, with the last third strip used in the 2002-03 season.
