[edit] Original research
I'm moving this here pending some type of verification. It would be a bad move to allow editors to speculate and engage in original research as to the meaning of songs. Best to just stick to quotes from the artists themselves whenever possible. Serpent-A 09:47, 2 June 2006 (UTC)
- "Dumb" can also be interpreted as being about passing the time wistfully ("The sun is gone, but I have a light") and enjoying the "simple pleasures" in life ("We'll float around, and hang out on clouds"). The song's bridge in particular can be seen as painting a serene picture, with Cobain singing "Skin the sun, fall asleep/Wish away; the soul is cheap" in a nursery rhyme rhythm.
- "Dumb" was written over a year before Cobain's addiction to heroin. However, some believe the song was partially inspired by his earliest flirtations with the drug. It has been speculated that the lyric, "My heart is broke, but I have some glue" is a reference to sniffing glue.
